Tues, 16th Feb, 2016 Port Parham foreshore, SA

18 months on the road and still loving it. Rain and wind through the night.

Overcast but the wind has settled, 22 degrees at 8am.

Checked the tide – heading out. No one in raking for crabs yet.

A couple of backpackers pulled out so we moved the van back in against the trees.

The wind has blown all the clouds away. After lunch we headed out for a walk to the waterline!! Sun is warm but the wind is still cold. Halfway out.

Now into the muckier bit, firm surface underneath though.

I stayed on the firmer stuff – will need wet boots for these walks – I hate the stuff squishing between my toes. Steve continued on looking for crabs.

I saw a white mound in the distance – it was a pile of pelicans standing in the shallow water.

A car had driven down onto the sand south of us so we headed over to see if they were getting any crabs. Thicker mud – yuck but luckily no sharp shells to cut my feet!!

The car belonged to an Asian family and the daughter asked if we knew how to get crabs. We walked out to the marker which also had a street sign.

Steve continued out while I found some nice shells.

No crabs except the two the Pacific Gulls had gotten into near the marker posts. Back to the van for a cuppa. The backpackers beside us had left and a couple from Alice Springs had moved in. Chatted with them for a bit then they headed out to get some crabs. We thought the tide was coming in but when I looked again it was even further out.

Read my book then had a drink when the neighbours on the other side came back from visiting the Barossa. Armed with a bottle they joined us and we chatted on. They have been travelling 5 months (ex Brisbane) so we gave them a few hints. They also bought a metal detector so we showed them ours and they showed theirs. They are heading to WA too.

The wind had picked up and the temperature has dropped so into the van to warm up. Rang Mum and Dad for a chat – 37 degrees up there but no rain and here I am in jeans and jumper!!
