Wed, 17th Feb, 2016 Port Parham foreshore, SA to Margaret & Gary’s, Marion Bay, SA

15.6 degrees at 7.30am, sunny and no wind. Packed up and headed north past the Wakefield Army Camp.

Margaret rang to say they are heading down. Turned off as we rounded the top of Gulf St Vincent to head towards Marion Bay. At the intersection was Federation Park. Great Emu and Kangaroo.

Stump jump plough which opened up this area for agriculture.

First view of the top of Gulf St Vincent.

Better view from a crest of a hill near Port Arthur.

Cheetham Salt is based in Price. Looking over the saltpans.

Into Ardrossan to find the dump point. Also found three free camp sites near it so we will be able to stop here and explore. Drove down to the lookout for lunch. Fabulous view and the sunrise and sunset photos are fantastic the brochures says.

Willy joined us for lunch but he didn’t think much of the corn.

We might catch a fish or crabs off the jetty too.

Lots of pigeons are cooing just below us on the cliff edge then up they all flew together.

Further down was the jetty for the grain that the Yorke Peninsula is famous for.

Cute church as we headed back out of town. Lots to explore here.

There is also a lookout above the bauxite mine which gives a fabulous view so will check that out without the van. Margaret and Gary passed us and we followed them to the turn off across Yorke Peninsula (just above the ankle as YP looks like a leg and foot). We are now heading towards dark clouds. Margaret & Gary turned off a Curramulka to pick up a trailer so we continued on to Minlaton to pick up the free/cheap Council camps info from the Information Centre. Got a brochure about what is grown here. Minlaton is known as the Barley Capital of the World. Also got some Kwells for Steve. Continued on through farm land to Marion Bay. Found their place.

They were still behind us so we made a cuppa and walked up onto the dune to enjoy the view. They are actually in Willyama Bay – named after the wreck that lies here since 1907.

Zoomed in on the stern post and steering quadrant that are still poking out of the sea after all these years. As the water surged we could see parts of the boiler.

Margaret and Gary arrived. Steve parked up onto the paving beside the house.

Gary got out the boat and he and Steve then went off to get some fuel. Margaret and I went for a walk along the beach then up to the lookout – forgot to take my camera!!!

Lovely dinner and lots of catching up and laughter as we played a few games of Bananagrams and Blokus – both great games. Bananagrams is similar to my old Take Two.

Off to bed as we are up early tomorrow to go fishing.
