Fri, 15th Apr, 2016 Bunda Cliffs Scenic Lookout to Bunda Cliffs Edge, Nullarbor National Park, SA

The birds are tweeting and Mr Crow is doing his arh arh arrrh morning call – the Nullarbor Rooster!! 7am and the sun is starting to rise. 17 degrees in the van but it was only 11.2 degrees outside but no wind so I could stand outside for a while to watch the sun rise. Lovely listening to the swell rolling in and crashing on the coastline.

Slow process, it eventually popped over the horizon at 7.13am. When we cross the border that will be 5.30ish – will be interesting to see what time I wake up then!!

After breakfast I walked out to the lookout to check out the cliffs with some eastern sun on them. A few people have pulled in and checked out the lookout. Sent a text off to Pinks to wish George a Happy Birthday.

The little birds are flying around and landing on the van.

Packed up and drove the big distance of 7 kilometres up to the turnoff for a rest area. Easy to see where to go out here as the vans stand out easily. A few were leaving so we chose a spot and backed up to the cliff’s edge. Checked it was stable and set up. You can’t get anything better than this!!

Not the greatest cliff view but it is an awesome spot.

Peered over the edge. 90 metres straight down.

Zoomed in on the cliffs further to the west.

How’s this for a cuppa with a view.

We were watching the Pacific Gulls and then noticed a dolphin near it.

Couldn’t focus on it with the camera so got out the telescope Dan gave us. Zooms in well.

Went for a walk west along the coastline, chatting with the other people as we went. Looks like the start of a sink hole – Steve lives dangerously jumping up and down on it!!

Some lizards were lazing in the sun.

Looking back to our camp.

Continued on – glad I have a digital camera.

Spotted a school of fish. They must be fairly big for us to see them from way up here.

Remains of a skink, I think.

Some visitors taking in the view.

We aren’t far away from the highway.

More amazing coastline.

Another school of fish.

The snail cemetery.

Back to the van for lunch. Steve got a fire pit ready for tonight – someone had left a pile of wood.

Had a cuppa watching the birds dive into the sea. Missed getting all the bubbles after his dive, then he popped back up and rested for a while before flying off again.

Wandered along the coastline to the east taking photos in both directions depending on where we could see down to the cliffs.

No sea-lions down there.

Last photos as we turned around and headed back to the van.

More vans pulling in for the night. The wind had picked up through the day creating waves on the water rather than just the rolling swell.

Steve got the fire going and we had our drinks around it. A big cloud band is south out at sea.

Another one is coming over the top of us and is blocking the sun. No nice sunset tonight.

Invited the campers near us to join us by the fire. They are from Perth though originally from Switzerland (Bruno & she had a very unusual name) – still have a strong accent. They had just picked up a new smaller off-road caravan and doing the ‘shake-down’ run home. As the sun set the big band of cloud disappeared and then the stars and moon were out.

So lovely to be by the fire again and it wasn’t too cool either. I even saw a satellite. Had a nice night chatting with them and they gave us info on places to go to in WA.
