Mon, 11th Apr, 2016 Scott Beach, Fowlers Bay Conservation Park, SA (exploring coastline)

Warmer night, 20 degrees at 7.30am. Headed off in the truck to explore the coastline. Drove up onto the cliffs we walked yesterday. The tide is out exposing the rocky reefs. Another band of clouds coming.

Continued past Scott Point and around the next bay. A flock of galahs were flying and resting on the rocky cliffs.

Looking back at Scott Point.

The track was firm. Passed more white sand dunes.

To the next bay and Cape Nuyts.

As we got closer we could make out the little island which is called Mexican Hat – well named.

Turned off into another campground area, still in the Conservation Park. Looks like an old grain seeder.

Unfortunately some ‘locals’ leave their rubbish everywhere and sadly two dead wombats!! Apparently they are everywhere and farmers have to eradicate them but to leave them rotting in a campground – really!!

Continued along the edge of the cliffs. A memorial plaque to a chap who liked fishing here.

He has a top view over the bay and Mexican Hat.

I call this ’The Lost City’.

Further around was an amazing cove.

Made it to Cape Nuyts. Looking back to Scott Point then Fowler Point.

The other way was an amazing coastline vista. Going by the map this is the start of the Great Australian Bight.

Another rock.

Back along the track. A few sandy bits.

That band of cloud has moved across us and just covered the sun.

Stopped to chat with Tony & Yvonne on Scott Point. Two chaps had climbed down the cliff to the rocks below to fish. Watched them catch a very nice whiting but I don’t think I will be climbing down!!

Drove back to the van for a cuppa then went back to where the hole in the cliff was to cast our lines out into the sandy area. Was fun trying to get the fish up and over the rocks. I caught a few little whiting, one flathead and a few other little fish. I even got ‘dubs’. Steve wasn’t have much luck.

Had some lunch then headed off to check out the ‘other’ road which is not a wet weather road. This guy didn’t have much luck.

Over the salt pans - luckily it is dry. Obviously this guy wasn’t so lucky.

Some bits are still wet. Trying to decide whether to go back that way or over the very corrugated road again.

Got to the road to Fowlers Bay and turned around. Turned off to check out a windmill on the way back.

Cuppa time then off to fish again. The sun is out again. Drove around the edge of the bay to Fowler Point.

Looking across the bay to Scott Point .

Stopped for a fish. I got a small salmon but the waves and weed eventually beat us. Fed the rest of the bait to the birds.

Getting cool so headed back to the van for a drink. Tony & Yvonne were still fishing off the beach and had only caught a leatherjacket so far.

Clouds blocked the sunset and to the east another band of clouds is heading over us.
