Mon, 11th July, 2016 Bush camp near Pioneer Cemetery, Wiluna to Peace Gorge, Meekatharra, WA

7.30am 9.5 degrees, clear blue sky and a light breeze – much nicer.

The road to Meekatharra is open but still lots of wet patches.

Stopped to check out the new pending exploration lease. Detected for an hour or so but only found lots of rubbish.

Headed further along and turned off at a well and stockyards to try and follow a track to another old mining area that is marked on the Hema. Unhooked the van and the boys headed off to explore. They didn’t get far as the track has disappeared. Oh well no gold for us today.

Stopped to check out an abandoned car – took photos to give to the Police when we get into town. Obviously they felt bad about leaving it.

Into Meekatharra and to the shops to stock up on grog and food. It was after 4pm so the Police was closed so will call in tomorrow.

Went past the van park which was packed. Heard recently of a lady who was accosted in the shower block there – very sad. Drove out to Peace Gorge to camp for the night just as the sun was going down.

Steve is happy, 28 channels on the TV. Weather forecast says 4 degrees overnight and then only 14 tops tomorrow!!
