Fri, 14th Dec, 2018 10 Mile Outcamp, Tarmoola Station, 60km north of Leonora, WA

Strong easterly wind back during the early hours.

7am 21 degrees and still windy with a clear sky.

Jakob’s birthday. Sent him a birthday text – hope his nursing is going well in Townsville.

Decided to do the bore run. Checked the first one ok but still lots of boggy patches on the way to the next one so we turned around. Headed north to the top ones but the creek/floodplains are still too wet to traverse. Back to camp for a cuppa. Two galahs are having a dig through the hay nearby.

Rang Kym and arranged BBQ lunch here for tomorrow. Supposed to be 40 degrees so I reminded her to bring their togs.

We cleaned out the old quarters. It still has a good floor and it is a big open area with a kitchen at one end. Huge wood-fired stove in there. There are two beds and a new gym set. Lots of dirt on the floor which I swept up but otherwise it isn’t too bad.

Steve put the handles on the newly assembled kitchen (the backpackers put it together recently). Unfortunately they got the big bottom drawer in the wrong spot so the 4th drawer didn’t fit. Steve had ‘fun’ trying to get it apart so he could change it. I eventually ‘googled’ Ikea cupboards and found a post from someone whose doors didn’t line up – just like this one. Because they ‘click’ together Steve had a hard time getting apart but eventually after watching the assembly video he figured it out and fixed the problem.

There is an old fibreglass tank that has been smashed across from us so we decided to get rid of it – ruining my view. Loaded it up and took it to the tip with a heap of other rubbish lying around. There is tons of other old stuff lying about from previous owners all around the place. Steve has his eye on an old truck that he wants to drag up here as a garden ornament!

Kym sent a message about the Geminids meteorite shower to happen tonight and over the weekend. At its peak there should be 120 ‘shooting stars’ per hour. Unfortunately it is in the middle of the night. Will have a look before we go to bed.

Got a bit of a sweat up working (36 degrees) so had our drinks in the pool. Very refreshing.

Watered the grass. There is lots of bird life – don’t always see them but can hear their calls. Two willy wagtails have fun darting about over at the old quarters and a few pigeons wander about.

Cooked dinner then watched another episode in Harper Island series. Checked the sky about 8pm – lots of stars and a quarter moon. No falling stars but I did see one satellite pass over.

Steve went to turn off the generator then we both stood out in the middle of the paddock looking up. Eventually we saw 5 falling stars whiz across the sky. The mozzies were also about so we only spent 15 minutes star gazing. The wind has picked up again.

NO PHOTOS TODAY.
