Tues, 10th November, 2015 Barbour Park, Gunning to Morleys Creek RV spot, Gundagai (sightseeing)

Lovely crisp morning with clear blue sky. Quickly warmed up though to 25 degrees as we packed up.

Back onto the Hume Highway – will explore the back roads more when we crawl over NSW as a later time. Bypassed Yass, enjoying the lovely countryside as we travel along.

Up and over Conroy’s Gap at 650m elevation. Steve keeps saying that Queensland needs the Bruce Highway to look like this – makes travelling so much better and safer.

Looking drier as we pass by Juglong.

Then past Colac area.

Down the hill as we head towards Gundagai.

Turned off for lunch at the rest stop beside the ‘Dog on the Tuckerbox’ monument.

The site of the Limestone Inn. Amazing to think they built a place out of stacked flat rocks back in 1857 and some of it is still standing.

An old wagon. Note Steve in shorts and T-shirt – we are in heaven!!

The Five Mile 1836 overnight stop site.

Walked over to the Apple Shed and bought some delicious new season apples. Around the paddock to check out the other history signs. Even the dogs are catered for here.

About the creating of the statue.

Poems and Poetry.

Steve checked out the machinery we think for cutting chaff. The horse would walk around inside the circle moving the log which turned the cog that turned the driveshaft which in turn turned the cutting wheel.

Some other bits and pieces on display – even a little cannon.

Next door sold all kinds of creations – closed for renovations at the moment though. I thought these were cut but too heavy to take with us – made of concrete.

Another dog carved out of timber.

The Info Board.

Into Gundagai where there is a $4 million upgrade happening on the main street. Past the old Court House.

Pass the historic bridges – will come back to check them out and out the back of town in the pastures. There is a 72 hour RV stop by Morleys Creek which is well mown and has cleared areas for views down onto the creek (220m elevation). It is a wide creek but it ends just in town so is more like a dam really. It used to flow into the Murrumbidgee River.

Set up camp and enjoyed a cuppa in the shade of the tree by the water. Big splashes by some fish – might have to get the rods out!!

Changed into shorter shorts as it is quite hot, 33.6 in the van at 3pm and worked on by blog etc outside under the awning. The little flies though are annoying down here – must be sheep flies!!

Two other vans here – one at each end of the paddock. One has three big dogs that keep barking at each other.

Enjoyed being outside for dinner though eventually the breeze got cooler and we headed inside. Heard a growl and thought it might be a koala but it was a possum – must have a friend he was fighting with.

Rang Erica to tell her about our visit to Wheeo.
