Fri, 3rd Feb, 2017 Betty’s Beach Campground, east of Albany, WA

Perfect morning. No breeze.

Chatted with a lady from Vic, with her husband and three kids are doing the Lap of the Map. He had walked around the bay and rocks to fish and saw some dolphins. Walked up to the higher area and spotted them out in the bay, then two more further around.

Mr Goanna was out enjoying the sunshine.

Joined the others for a swim – chilly when you first get in but lovely after that.

After lunch we went for a drive. Up the hill we turned off to North Point. Looking across Two Peoples Bay to South Point.

Drove down as far as the road went. Looking over North Point with a big rock ledge. No walking tracks down to the water.

Back up then we turned onto another track heading up the hill through all the big boulders and black boys.

Looking back over Betty’s Beach and North Point.

Clouds are starting to come over – the big hill is hidden. The beach is Norman’s Beach.

The track has been upgraded and headed steeply down towards Norman’s Beach. King Creek behind the dune.

Parked at the top of the dune. King Creek does get to the ocean. Tried to walk down but the track became very boggy from a spring off the hillside.

The track originally went up the hillside but that has been closed off. We drove around the base of more big boulders down to the creek.

The track again went up the hill but was blocked off though the road closed sign has been removed now.

Turned around and headed back up the track – looking over the creek entering the ocean and across Betty Bay to North Point.

Back on the main track up to the top for a view over Two Peoples Bay and Lake Angove  behind it - which supplies the fresh water for Albany.

Turned towards the Bay down a steep track – ‘no caravans’ sign on this one. But when we got down there was a van tucked into a camp site and a big 4WD motorhome and a few tent campers in East Bay Campground.

There is 4WD access onto the beach so you can get around the bay to fish.

Chatted with the couple in the 4WD motorhome for a while then headed back up the track. Turned off onto one of the 4WD tracks to the cliff tops. Another lovely beach but no track down to it.

Back to the van for a cuppa. Got my book out and Steve had bought some new magazines so just chilled out for the afternoon. The other blokes were fishing but only got a few small herring so we didn’t bother.

Drinks time though it is a bit chilly on our grassy spot as the clouds have come over but the view is worth it. A combi came in and just continued driving down the track instead of checking it out first and of course got bogged. We always walk first, especially having the van on, otherwise you can end up in all sorts of trouble. Another chap got out his 4WD and they got him back out again. A lady from Albany said they can use the open parts of the shacks to camp in if they wish, which they did!!
