Fri, 29th June, 2018 Graves Hill Fossicking Area, near Sapphire, Qld

Dawn colours amongst the mist. The moon is just setting and I even got a kangaroo in the picture.

7am 12 degrees, clear sky with mist still hanging low over the trees. Dew on everything.

Went ‘specking’ along the road using mirrors to flash the sunlight on the ground. Hoping the rain has exposed some gemstones along the edge of the track but no luck.

We washed the dirt we collected yesterday. Learnt the art of shaking the sieve around so the gemstones and black stones all go to the middle. Steve took a video of my turn at washing the stones – back breaking work – need a higher tub!!

Then it is upended onto a table and the gemstones should be in the middle with the black stones. Need good sunlight to see them easily.

You can 3 zircons in this picture.

We found 9 little zircons.

Erica found another spot with her wires so we dug out more dirt and washed it. Used the table this time for the sorting which was easier but the tub is still down low.

We got a few more. Steve used the pan to wash the fines and found a little green sapphire.

The lorikeets arrived for lunch. They like apple.

Lovely sunny day with a light breeze. 2pm 24.7 degrees.

Got some more dirt to process and found a few more little gems. Showed Erica and Terry  some over our Canning Stock Route videos.

Chatting over a cuppa Steve, Erica and Terry had a lovely afternoon reminiscing about Woodgate, Mitchell, growing up etc – it was great to listen to.

Erica rang Steve’s cousin Robyn as she had become a grandmother. Another little girl to add to the family tree.

Possum and Potoroo had a bit of a quarrel about dinner scraps tonight.

Cool evening.
