Fri, 5th Oct, 2018 Bush camp by Diamantina River, Birdsville, Qld

6.30am 16 degrees, lots of crows, corellas, willy wagtails, whistling kites and other birds making a racket as the sun came up. A helicopter flew low over us which got our attention.

Finished off a great book, Sapphire Falls, Erica gave me by Australian writer, Fleur McDonald.

8am still only 18 degrees as the light breeze is blowing across the water. Clear sky.

I worked on my blog with my fly net on as they are bad here. Steve went for a walk to get some firewood. Steve even resorted to the net so they must be bad, He finished reading the Stuberville book.

Uploaded another day to my blog, trying to get up to date before we hit the Simpson. Put an update on Facebook and noticed Sarah’s comment that her grandmother had passed away (Dave’s mum). Sad for them all. Sent Dave and Wendy a message of sympathy.

The breeze is still cool. Rang Telebiz in Cairns to get a month of credit for the Sat Phone – better safe than sorry.

Decided to put up the fly net around the kitchen area so we hopefully can eat lunch not flies! Worked well, some flies still inside but they seem to go up into the top corners so aren’t worrying us. So nice to eat without swatting flies.

Steve started reading ‘Sapphire Falls’. It is a suspense murder one and he has guessed who did it only quarter way into the book – he would have made a great detective.

Got another day of blog done so uploaded it then checked the Supercars practice from yesterday online.

Nice and peaceful listening to the birds. Willy wagtail gets very upset when a crow comes near his nest in the tree near us. Love the sound of the whistling kites – it is the sound that always reminds me of the bush.

The light breeze continued though one strong gust came through whipping up some dust but that was it.

Leanne rang as she and Rick were sitting down to watch Qualifying and thought of us as we had fun with them volunteering at Bathurst in 2015. We had a lovely long chat.

Went online then and watched the videos about Qualifying. A young rookie has made it into the Top 10 for Erebus so Betty will be very happy as Reynolds won last year and he is going well too.

Steve got the fire going but stayed in our enclosure to have drinks as the flies haven’t disappeared yet. I started a new book and Steve is enjoying his book – didn’t think I would see the day when he is reading my books.

Lovely sunset and the flies have gone to bed so we sat by the fire while dinner cooked. Steve hooked with his book – I keep quizzing him as to who done it etc trying to throw him off the scent but he is on the money. After dinner kept reading till shower time then a coffee while he finished his book. He was right about who did it!!

Lovely evening with a light cool breeze.
