Sat, 7th Sept, 2019 Peace Gorge picnic area, near Meekatharra to Bush camp, 10km south of Meekatharra, WA (Stephanie’s birthday)

7.30am 18.6 degrees, overcast and windy. A light shower of rain fell about 5am. Another shower of rain and strong wind buffeting the van now.

Sent Stephanie a birthday message via Facebook – need to get her phone number.

Rang Andrea and Alan for a catch-up – she is loving her view now the big tree has been removed from the neighbour’s yard.

I tried ringing Rebecca and Clive as they have just come back from their trip to Iceland but she was out and texted she would ring me back later.

Moved camp to a pending area just out of Meekatharra.

It is near where Steve found his first big piece 3 years ago, but that area is now a live lease so we can’t go back there. As it is going to be 31 degrees Steve parked near a tree to give us a bit of shade from the afternoon sun since the wind is blowing so much which is giving the awning a beating.

The fridge is playing up again, not keeping cold now. As we headed down Steve drove on the corrugations to try and dislodge any blockages in the cooling pipes of the fridge.

A few more drops of rain fell at lunch time.

The sky has started to clear. Steve went for a detect while I relaxed reading – got some good books at the moment. I went for a walk back and forwards along the track near the van to get some exercise with the wind whistling around me through the trees. Steve returned – he got lots of exercise too.

Played Skipbo over drinks – I had a win, 2 games to 1.

Rebecca and Clive rang – they had a great trip except for the long flights. Clive has some great videos of the amazing waterfalls and glaciers which I will check out when I am home.

The fridge is getting hotter, 10 degrees. Steve checked everything again and definitely thinks it is a blockage in the cooling pipes. We pulled out the perishables and jammed them in the truck’s fridge/freezer. Luckily we hadn’t done any more shopping.

7pm 25 degrees with the windows and vents open – lovely.  Dinner and movies and we left the windows open.
