Tues, 19th Nov, 2019 Fig Tree Crossing Rest Area, north-east of Geraldton to 24hr RV Stop, Geraldton, WA

7am 23.4 degrees, cool breeze and overcast.

Rang Mum and Dad. Mum had her knee injection yesterday and she can notice an improvement.

Said bye to the sheep in the field beside to us then headed into Geraldton. Over a rise and we spotted the Indian Ocean.

Parked the van at the 24 hour RV stop which is also the boat ramp. Steve noticed they have widened the bays as last time we barely had room to put our step out. It is beside the big grain storage sheds and rail yards. Unhooked the van and went off to the shops.

Did the groceries in stages as we had run everything down so needed a full load up to last us 3 weeks or so till we get up to Carnarvon.

After lunch we picked up some more info from the Information Centre and made a few more phone calls. Decided we will leave our van somewhere and go exploring in the truck as there is a lot of 4WD tracks around Steep Point etc.

Dark clouds are building up around us.

Malcolm rang – he was moving his irrigators. No rain so having to water everything. He said they had their first Spring day of 26 degrees. I said that is what we were having here. It has been so cold and miserable in Tassie – there is still some snow on the Western Tiers.

Steve got TV channels so the antenna is working well. Shame there is so much rubbish now on TV but he enjoys some of the programs on 7 Mate.

We had bought seasoned chicken pieces for dinner and I chopped up roast vegies to put in the oven. Luckily it is cool enough now we aren’t minding the heat from the stove. We will get 3 gas bottles filled tomorrow so decided we needed to burn up some gas.

Steve walked down to the jetty – taking his flanny shirt too as the wind was cold. He came back reporting he had seen two sea lions.

After dinner I did my baking to use up some more gas. We can get them filled for $22 each – bit of a difference to $45 and $55 in the goldfields!

More people are pulling into the bays. I chatted with a couple beside us from Townsville. They have been travelling for a year with their 3 children and 2 small dogs. I asked how the schooling was going and the oldest was happy to say she only had one assessment left. Dad said it was certainly a challenge especially with the younger too. I take my hat off to them as my month with Kayla trying to get through all the work was an education for me.

Enjoyed our yummy dinner and managed to find to watch on TV.
