Wed, 4th May, 2016 Bush camp on hill, 50km south of Meekatharra, WA

22 degrees, dark clouds are blocking out the sunrise.

The wind has picked up from the north and I could hear thunder from the south.

Steve headed west to explore the area between here and the next leased area. The mining office chap warned they are not the friendliness but they are supposed to allow people to traverse their lease following the track.

More blogging – nearly caught up now – just the big day exploring Meeka to write up.

Steve back empty-handed. He drove through two leases and the end on had a gate so he turned around. A vehicle came towards him so he stopped to say hello. The chap was a worker for the leaseholder and explained how they process the ore here. They have a dam so have enough water. Steve noticed a rifle across the seat but the guy was friendly. He said ‘here comes the boss’ and headed off. Steve waved to the boss but he just drove by scowling so Steve headed back trying a few other spots – not on anyone’s lease!!

28 degrees in the van at lunch. We washed our hair, mine was like straw (dust & smoke) and Steve’s needed a cut. Gave him a good trim up in the wild wind that was bringing in a storm in the north. Wound the awning in a bit as it was getting a good flap up.

Steve headed off again. I put on a chicken casserole (I haven’t tried yet) in the Ecopot and then made a cheesecake. A simple recipe I got out of a caravan magazine – packet of Scotch Finger biscuits laid on greaseproof paper (no crushing needed), mixed together 300ml thickened cream, ½ cup of lemon juice and a tin of condensed milk till thickened then poured it over the biscuits. Grated some chocolate on top and covered with gladwrap to go in the fridge overnight – I had bought the ingredients when we did the shopping in Kal. Looks yummy, hope it tastes as good.

Steve back with no gold again. The storm was working its way around us blocking out the sun.

We could see lightning to the north then it swung around again and we got a shower of rain from the NE. We were watching it head towards us. It didn’t last long then the storm passed over. It even had a rainbow.

No fire tonight though as it is too windy.

Still 25 degrees in the van at 10pm with the windows open. The chicken casserole was delicious. Went to bed with lightning flashing in the distance.
