Thurs, 4th Sept, 2025 Centennial Park 72hr RV Stop, Kalgoorlie to Bush camp on pending lease, north of Kookynie, WA

16.2 degrees min and clear sky. Some people moved off early!

Clouds are coming over as we headed off to get fuel. Back to the Railway Station to get our tickets printed. Got a few more bits from Coles then around to Bunnings for some air vents - the plastic ones on the fridge door outside area have cracked so got some metal ones this time. Also needed some thick foam to put around the edge of the door as the dust is coming in between the outer and inner door - all the dust swirls around the back of the camper as we drive along. The scuppers Steve put in work to pressurise the camper to keep the dust out too.

Got a hot chook and buns for lunch and stopped at the rest area north of Kalgoorlie. A chap came over to chat while Steve was putting the foam on the door.

Continued northward back through Menzies then past the turn off into Kookynie. Found a track to a pending lease Rick had checked out on his way home. He had met a lady who said they got a few bits here last year so we thought it might be worth checking out. Followed one track across the lease to try and get near the little mining lease. Nice area with basins and escarpments with lots of little caves etc. Stopped at a ‘dam’ that was a natural rock hole by the looks and then made bigger. The water flows down over the little red rocks.

Continued on a bit but only the red pebble rocks around here so headed back to the other track. Found the drill holes and rehabilitation area and saw a few fresh dig holes.

We set up camp where others have had camp fires and there is an old 44 gallon drum as a fire pit too.

The cool wind is blowing and it is cloudy so we had our drinks inside with a game of cards. Back to cooler days and nights again for the next few days and possibly a few showers of rain.
