Tues, 16th Sept, 2025 Lake Douglas Reserve campground, west of Kalgoorlie to Bush camp on pending lease off Bulong Road, east of Kalgoorlie, WA

8.2 degrees min - turned the heater on. Clear sky. No wind but still need jeans & jumpers outside.

Drove back to Kalgoorlie. I sent off a message to David & Amanda for their 30th wedding anniversary. David rang back - they are going to Brisbane for the weekend to celebrate.

I decided to take the train back to Kal when I fly back from Cairns so we went around to the train station to buy my ticket. Just means sitting around the airport from 11pm when I arrive then taking the train across to East Perth to catch the 7am train back to Kal. I have done it once before and sat around in the McDonalds near the station. Makes for a very long night but it will save Steve driving all the way back to Perth for us just to turn around and drive back again as we head back to Queensland. Only $100 for the train compared to all the fuel it would cost to drive.

Walked up Hannan Street to the Minelab Shop. Chatted with the chap about places to detect. He said he had found a small patch and got 18 grams the other day but didn’t say where of course. He said not to discount any top of ground as his patch was in soft loam soil rather than the traditional ironstone and quartz.

Topped up the water and diesel and headed out Bulong Road to check out a few new pending leases. We haven’t driven on this road so another one to mark off.

One lease we can’t access as there is a haul road where the track used to be and is in current use so won’t chance that one. Found a track further along off the other way and made our way up to another pending lease which is around a small live lease. Parked up. There is small ironstone rocks about but no quartz so will take the Minelab chap’s advice and give it a try - well Steve will. I stayed in the camper to write up my blog - lots of photos from our ‘rock’ adventure.

Steve had a big walk but only found rubbish by afternoon tea. He went out again and was rewarded with two small species. Will come back here with Bob & Margaret now we know there is some hope of finding gold.

I saw a FB post from Maralyn about lots of things for sale from her uncle. I thought that was weird so I sent her a message via FB messenger and she replied that it was an uncle I didn’t know. Was I interesting in anything? I said no, but would help by reposting it for her. Which I did then I saw a post from her daughter saying she had been hacked so I quickly deleted my post and sent an alert to FB. I then rang Maralyn - she is so over it as she has been hacked so many times she is going to give up on having a FB page. It is such a good tool for communicating but unfortunately the ‘bad’ people manage to ruin it for everyone else. So far I have been lucky and hope it stays that way. I won’t be reposting anything any more unless I chat with them on the phone first.

Cool afternoon again so cards and drinks inside. Heated up the camper with dinner in the oven.
